“The DEK Foundation was started by the company’s directors and staff as a response to witnessing the struggles of the poor and disadvantaged in our communities.”
Over the years, the DEK Foundation has partnered with several Australian and overseas organizations to provide sustainable, fair and equitable solutions that address the causes and symptoms of the poor and underprivileged.
With a focus on children, we support programs for the uneducated and poor by helping improve community child-care facilities, providing tutorship opportunities and funding research/training for leading medical institutes. We donate to various foundations such as the Moira Kelly Children’s First Foundation and fund surgical transplant procedures such as heart surgeries for children hoping to provide them with a brighter future and lifelong improvements.
“We plan to engage our people around the world and become more active in the regions in which we work.”
Kind Cuts for Kids is an Australian based non-government, not-for-profit organisation that provides specialist medical care for children in developing countries around the world. Completely aligned with the DEK Foundations principles, Kind Cuts for Kids is also 100% volunteer based and every dollar is spent directly on the treatment and welfare of the children and on the training of local health care professionals.
Professor Dewan (second from the left) founded Kind Cuts for Kids when the tragic Russian train disaster of 1989 sparked his interest for assisting overseas surgeons to treat children.
In October 2016, the DEK Foundation proudly organised and sponsored a Professor Dewan led mission to Vietnam to help treat sick children and run educational programs for local doctors/surgeons at the National Children’s Hospital in Hanoi. Assisting him on the trip to Vietnam were Dr. Padma Rao, a UK & Australian trained physician and radiologist and Dr Nimako, Boateng, a healthcare practitioner specialising as a Paediatrician in Ghana. The DEK Foundation is extremely proud and honoured to have sponsored these amazing doctors and the work they are doing to help disadvantaged children in developing countries.
Our Foundation would also like to give a very special thank you to Cook Medical Australia who very kindly donated specialist medical equipment for this mission. The DEK Foundation aims to further support Kind Cuts for Kids in the coming months by sponsoring further missions to Vietnam.
The DEK Foundation funded 10 heart surgeries for children in 2015 and another 10 in 2016. We will continuously give, support and organize more activities to help people in need.
The DEK Foundation also funded training for 40 pediatric oncologists at the Pediatrics Hospitals in the Basic and Advanced Course for Pediatric Palliative Care. These course were conducted by Harvard University’s Medical School.
The event BACK TO SCHOOL WITH DEK took place in Vietnam on Saturday, 28th August 2016 and was a huge success! The day started by setting up brand new tables and chairs which took a lot of hard labor from our strong and hard working volunteers. Books were organized in the library and a reading corner was built that included wall decorations, stickers, small tables and mats. We would like to say a special thanks to all those that volunteered and express our gratitude to all the people who took their time to make this happen.
On January 16th 2016, several DEK Technologies employees and members of the DEK Foundation Group went to Dinh Quan, one of the toughest areas in the Dong Nai province in Vietnam to share clothes and gifts, with 50+ families, in preparation for the upcoming Tet (Vietnamese New Years) holidays.
The DEK Foundation gave 20 laptops to Nguyen Dinh Chieu Blind School in September 2015. These laptops were given to facilitate teaching and learning at Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for The Blind at the school entrance ceremony.
The laptops are loaded with screen access- and magnification software programs that provide a means to navigate the keyboard and desktop, open and use programs, and browse the web. It also enable users to read all onscreen content, such as emails, spreadsheets, application tool bars etc.
